Assignment 2 : My favourite colours.

For this assignment, we had to answer the following questions :
-  What is your favourite colour ?- My favourite colour is brown. - Did your favourite colour change over the years ?- Yes, it has. When I was very young I liked pink, when I was a little older I loved black and now brown is my favourite colour. - Why do you like this colour so much ?- I do not know. I guess I like it because it is a very classic, oldfashioned colour. - Which feeling does this colour give you ?- This colour gives me a feel of cozyness, although i do not know why that is.
We also had to include a picture of ourselves when we were younger, and make up a little story to go along with it. And we must post a picture of an outfit that has our favourite colour in it.

I can still remember the day this picture was taken, in school. My mother got me all dressed up for the picture and I did like the outfit.  The room was decorated with old washboards and other old things. I already liked them when I was very young, which is funny because I still like them.

This is a photo of a red dress which I like very much. It is from Etsy. I chose this because I think it is a beautiful, yet very simple and elegant 1940s dress. There is no brand or label name given and the price is $ 89 (67,39 Euros.).

My soldier : Thomas Hackett

20 jan 2013, 13:21

After publishing my latest post, I thought that it would be a good idea to tell you all a bit more about my soldier, so you know who I am actually writing about.
Here is a picture of him and two other members from his association, about which I will tell you more later in this post.

American uniform.
 And British uniform.
   Isn't he handsome ? ;)  Sieht er nicht hübsch aus ? ;)
And here are some action photos : Hier sind einige 'Action-Bilder'

Thomas Hackett is his reenactment name, his real name is Tomáš Hataj . He is 17 years old and lives in Czech Republic, where he is also member of the Living History group called 'KVH Tommy & Yankee Association Pilsen'. He met the group and the Reenactment World during one of the Liberation Festivals, which is held every year in Pilsen. His rank within the club is Cpl. (corporal).

And from the 1950s they are : Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly and Frank Sinatra. I think that is an amazing music taste for a seventeen-year-old :) .

A scarf for my Soldier

18 jan 2013, 13:59

-Einen Schal für meinen Soldat-
The title of this post probably needs a bit of exlplaination, So I will start right away.A month ago, I suddenly got a message from a nice young man on Facebook. His name is Tomáš  and made he made a compliment about a picture of me that he saw. We started to talk and soon we discovered that we had very much in common. Our interests, favourite music, etc. He is a WWII Reenactor and now we write each other letters the same way people did during the war, with special 'Victory Mail or V-Mail' :
During the war it was common for the women home to knit garments for the soldiers  who were abroad. And so I decided to knit a scarf for him. And because of that, and because of the fact that he is a WWII reenactor, I call him 'my' soldier ;) .

I must say that I am rather satisfied with the finished product. It is actually my very first knitting project. Soon I'll sent it zo the Czech Republic so he can wear it. I am really happy we 'met' each other because he is a very nice person and a great friend.
Es is mein erstes 'Strick-Projekt'.

Jip.

Photoshoot with Yesim Yilanci

14 jan 2013, 14:46

After a rather long time (more than a month) I can finally catch up on some blogging. School kept me busy ver much and the last few weeks I had several events with Club Interbellum. One day, a girl from the photography-section of my shool asked me if I wanted to do a photoshoot with her. I thought it would be great fun and said yes.

Find Yesim on Deviantart
The dress I was wearing is an original 1940s evening dress. I did my hair by curling it with sponge rollers and then I did victor rolls afterwards. Here are the photos that Yesim made :

Liebster Blog Award

1 dec 2012, 11:46

The lovely Jannie from Vintage Window awarded me with the 'Liebster Blog Award'. Thank you so much ! I have to answer the 11 questions she made for the bloggers she awarded. These are the rules of the award :

1. Link and follow the blogger who awarded you
2. Blog about the award
3. Give the award to 5 other bloggers - preferably bloggers with less than 200 followers
4. Answer the 11 questions I asked you and create 11 questions to your 5 awarded bloggers

And now I'll answer the 11 questions Jennie made :
1. Have you ever had regrets about wearing vintage & said to yourself: "Enough is enough...!?"
- No, never. I'm even thinking of wearing vintage the rest of my life. It's good for the enviroment and good for me, as it makes me happy while wearing it.
2. What is the dearest vintage item in your possession?
- A pair of 1940s winter boots I bought in Amsterdam a while ago.
 3. What do you do put under your shoes when they need new soles?
- New soles :) . When the sole is only a bit broken, I try to fix it with contact glue. But when I see they need new soles, I take them to the cobbler right away to get them fixed. I've did the same with the shoes pictured above.
4. Are you the only one in your family, who wear or live vintage?

- Yes, unfortunately I am. But my family does like the fact that I wear vintage.
5. For how long did you wear or live vintage before starting to blog?
- Not so long, perhaps a few weeks. But I feel that the longer I know vintage, the better I want to dress more authentic than I did a year ago.
6.  Many vintage lovers also seem to be cat lovers – are you fond of cats & if you are why?
- Oh, yes, I just love cats ! They are so cute and you can cuddle them. Unfortunately the black cat (Banjer) I once blogged about, walked away and we never saw him again. But we still have his brother to keep us company :) .
7.  What season is the best & what is the worst for wearing vintage?
I think all the seaons are good, but in winter you can't wear nylons without freezing and finding vintagew winter shoes and coats is very hard. So I think winter can be the worst season if you can't find a good vintage coat or shoes if you want to look very authentic.
8. Do you make your own vintage style clothing & if you do, please show us some examples!
- I did sew some dresses some time ago, but I want to start all over with sewing and start with the very basics. I do sew my own seamed stockings and my mother made me a 1940s jacket with a pattern from my 'Goldene Schnitt'- book. But I'll  blog about that very soon.
9. Have you ever persuaded anybody to start wearing vintage – if your have, what was your best argument?
- No, unfortuantely not. Not yet :)
10.  Does wearing or living vintage also affect the way you speak?
- Ofcourse it does. I often speak with two words, greet people on the street and such. I don't even have to pay attention to it, it just happens.
11. Could you tell us either a joke or a riddle about the vintage lifestyle?
- No, I don't know any jokes or riddles. But please tell me if you know one :) .
Now I'll choose 5 other bloggers to pass the award on :
1. Erika at Fun with vintage2. Swingingcat at Beswingtes Allerlei (a very nice German vintage blog)3. Presley at Young Vintage Girl4.  Eleanor at Victory Rolls and Roses5. Luna at Vintage Tagebuch (both English and German)
Here are the 11 questions you have to answer :
1. How did you discover vintage clothing ?Wie hast du Vintage entdeckt ? 2. If you could only take one vintage item you own to an abandoned island, what would it be ?Wenn du nur ein Ding (was vintage ist) nach einem Insel mitnehmen könntest, was würde es dann sein ? 3. Is there a lot of vintage in the city where you live ?Gibt es viel vintage wo du wohnst ? 4. Did you discover new hobbies or interests after you discovered vintage ?Hast du neue Hobby's oder Interessen entdeckt nachdem du Vintage entdeckt hast ? 5. For how long have you been wearing  vintage ?Wie lange trägst du schon Vintage Kleidung ? 6. Are you sometimes afraid ripping seams in old clothing or broken soles of shoes becaus of their age ?Hast du manchmal Angst das durch das Tragen Vintage Kleidung kaputt geht ? 7. Have you ever worn seamed stockings in winter (despite the temperature) because you thought they were more vintage/prettier than thights ?Hast du schon Mal im Winter Nylons getragen weil du die schöner fand als Strumpfhosen, obwohl es kalt war ? 8. Do you also adapt vintage to your daily life ?Verarbeitest du im Alltag noch mehr vintage als nur die Kleidung ? 9. Who is your vintage fashion icon and why ?Wer is deinen Vorbild wenn es um Vintage Mode geht und weshalb ? 10.Do you have any pets?Hast du Haustiere ? 11. Why did you start blogging ? Wann hast du angefangen zu Bloggen ?
Thank you again for awarding me Jannie :) .

Fabulous Fifties - Fabulous Fashion

17 nov 2012, 17:24

Yesterday, we went to a exhibition about fashion in the 1950s called 'Fabulous Fifties - Fabulous Fashion' with our school in The Hague, NL. We arrived there at around 11:30 am. We saw many pieces of clothing like dresses, shoes, skirts, underwear, swimwear etc.
Although I wear more 1930s/1940s clothing than 1950s, I still like the fashions of that era and I found the whole exhibiotion quite interesting. Unfortunately we stayed only half an our.

London, here I come !

18 okt 2012, 11:12

-Ich gehe nach London !-

In just 2 days I'll be in an airplane to London. My aunt and niece decided to go there because my niece passed her exams and they decided to take me with them. I am so happy, I always wanted to go to London because I like England, I really do not know why.
We'll fly from Eindhoven to London on Saturday, October 20, at 5 PM. Because of a different time zone, we'll arrive in London at 5PM aswell. On Tuesday, October 23, we'll fly back to Eindhoven.
We'll be staying at the 'Astor Court Hotel' and it'll be the very first time ever I'm staying at a hotel.
[/i]There are no real plans of what we are going to do while we are there. We want to visit 'The London Eye'. And I'm afraid of heights, haha. My niece and I would like to shop a little. Can you suggest any vintage/thriftstores or fleamarkets in London ? I already asked a friend and a few British bloggers, but every advice is welcome :) .
I look so much forward to the trip, and I hope I'll find some nice vintage pieces to add to my wardrobe. At the moment I am trying to give away or sell pieces I don't like anymore. I also try to incorporate as much vintage insteas of modern pieces as I can.

Have you ever been to London ? Where did you go and can yous suggest any vintage goldmines :) ?Warst du schon Mal in London ?
Love, Jip.

My favourite outfit, inspiration and the things I'd like to have.

15 okt 2012, 13:26

Assignment A
This is my very first school-blog-assignment, and I think this is the nicest homework I'll get, next to sewing ofcourse. The first assignment was to post a picture of our favourite ouftit :

This was actually the first vintage ouftit I ever bought. It's a two-piece with cute flower crepe fabric which is in perfect condition. It dates to the 1940s. Only the buttons and zipper have been replaced, probably in the 1980s, according to the zipper. I bought it in a second-hand-store for 8 Euros (both pieces were 4 euro) and I've worn it so many times already since I bough it one and a half year ago. There are no labels or brands, for it was handmade by someone who could sew very well many, many years ago. For the school assignment, we also have to answer this question : 'How important is fashion to you' ? Fashion is rather important to me, although I really do not care about the latest trends. I like to wear things that were in fashion from the 1930s and the 1940s.
Assignment B
For this assignment we had to collect images of clothing we would like to have but which is far too expensive. I collected images from Etsy, and created a collage using Polyvore. I also wrote down the prices. So if you like vintage and have a lot of money, this is what you can buy ;) .

I looked for 1940s shoes because I like old shoes so much since I've bought a pair in Amsterdam a few weeks ago. I can never have too much vintage dresses. Especially with prints. And I want to collect vintage bags, as I have only one. I think the cape is so cute and warm, and it has this stunning 1940s silhouette.
Assignment C
For this assignment, we had to write down who inspires us. I chose my friend Lindsay, which I met in Amsterdam. We have so much in comment and I am so glad that I have finally found a vintage-friend to talk about all things 1940s :) . She also has a beautiful and interesting blog :

I really admire her style because she is so historically correct. Her clothing, her shoes and especially her hair. She already gave me advice about curling and combing hair, but mine still doesn't look as beautiful as hers does :) She is really nice and I think she's just in general a great person. And I love the fact that we both love the 1940s.
Love, Jip.
